MUTE

MUTE is a free peer-to -peer file sharing program that attempts to conceal the identity of the user. MUTE was developed by Jason Rohrer as a native application for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, and published under Public Domain. Since 2009, MUTE is no longer being developed.

Features

  • Fully decentralized network without any centralized (Index ) server; Search drains through controlled flooding.
  • Use of indirect connections: provider and receiver of a file do not hold any direct communication with each other, but the connection is established via several intermediate nodes, so that neither the receiver knows which node it downloads, nor the sender, to whom he transmitted the file. Each node knows only the IP addresses of some neighboring nodes.
  • Encryption of connections between neighboring nodes in the network (RSA, AES).
  • The routing is based on an ant algorithm.

Thus, to enable the MUTE Swap files with the greatest possible privacy. Similar techniques are also used in Freenet, Retroshare, GNUnet, I2P and others.
