Muti

Muti ( Zulu uMuthi: tree, shrub ) refers to the traditional healing methods of the Zulu medicine in South Africa, pursued by so-called Sangoma. The term also includes the different remedies and concoctions are referred to themselves.

As medicines are mainly all kinds of herbs and plants for use, but also the earth and all kinds of animal products such as goat fat, bone or skull. The remedies are stirred among other things, to paste and then rubbed on the skin or spent by scratching the skin into the bloodstream.

As Muti- killings incidents of human sacrifice and mutilation in connection with Muti- practices are referred to. This ritual murders are applied to parts of the body to which special powers are attributed (including brain, heart, genitals), to be used in incantations, spells or healing.
