My Country, 'Tis of Thee

My Country, 'Tis of Thee ( " My country, from you is it ", also: America ) is a patriotic song of the United States of America, which was written by Samuel Francis Smith in 1831. In addition to other songs like especially Hail, Columbia it fulfilled - although not officially - the function of a national anthem of the United States, with up to The Star- Spangled Banner was awarded a song for the first time the status of an official national anthem in 1931.

The melody is that of God Save the Queen. This is My Country, 'Tis of Thee operated a classic archetype of the melody of many patriotic songs of his time.
