Myclobutanil is a chemical compound selected from the group of triazoles, nitriles and Chlorphenyle. It is used as a broadband fungicide in agriculture and in the home garden (especially in ornamental plants, fruit trees and viticulture to scab, rust and powdery mildew ). Consist pesticide registrations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland for these applications. The effect is based on inhibition of sterol biosynthesis.
Synthesis
In the manufacture of first reacting 4 - chlorophenylacetonitrile myclobutanil and 1- chlorobutane to each other. Then, by reaction with dibromoethane a bromomethane group added. The bromine is substituted at the last step with 1,2,4-triazole.
Safety
Myclobutanil affects people only slightly toxic. In high doses damage were detected in embryos in animal experiments. It is highly toxic to fish, algae and zooplankton.
