MyoD

Myogenic factor 3 ( MyoD, Myf -3 ) is a protein in the cell nucleus of animal which binds to the DNA of particular genes, thereby increasing the transcription of these genes, or brakes, known as a transcription factor. Together with myogenin, Myf -5 and Myf -6 can MyoD fibroblasts differentiate into myoblasts and so initiates the construction of the skeletal muscles. Even just the presence of MyoD (or Myf -5 ) is sufficient as a triggering factor. MyoD is a family of helix - loop-helix transcription factors

Electrical muscle stimulation, the expression of MyoD increase. Rats with diaphragmatic myopathy showed strongly reduced MyoD expression. In muscles of aging mice she was raised against it. In breeding pigs, a variant of MyoD with high meat quality is associated.

Function

Fibroblasts in the formation of MyoD completely suppressed by the binding of a homeobox factor Msx1 and histone 1B to the MyoD enhancer. The elements, which lead to the initial transcription of MyoD and Myf -5, are still unknown, the simultaneous elimination of Myf -5, MyoD and Pax3 prevents expression.

To change the protein production of the cell nucleus in the long run, be served MyoD several mechanisms: by activation of Mef2 and the p38 kinase pathway, it ensures continued its own expression in a temporal pattern over several days; is prevented by changing the chromatin context that the muscle cell falls back into old production processes; and by use of a different initiation complex, the normal promoter effects are bypassed.
