Myogenin

Myogenin is a transcription factor in vertebrates, which is involved in the activation of muscle-specific genes. Myogenin particular occurs in regeneration phase in skeletal muscles and plays a role in the formation of skeletal muscle fibers during certain stages of embryonic development.

In connection with the human genome, the term Myf -4 is commonly used. When high concentrations of myogenin, it binds predominantly as a homodimer to its characteristic binding sequences in the promoter of regulated genes. In low concentrations, it is common with other transcription factors heterodimers, which in turn bind to the DNA. Possible cooperating transcription factors are MEF -2, NF -1, E12 and COMP 1.
