Myzopoda

The Malagasy adhesive disc bats ( Myzopoda ) are the only genus of the family within the Myzopodidae bats. It is endemic to Madagascar. Name are decisive sucker like bales of wrists and ankles. With the help of these bales, the bats can hold by wet adhesion to smooth surfaces.

The genus includes two species:

  • Malagasy adhesive disc bat ( Myzopoda aurita )
  • Myzopoda close manni

The genus Myzopoda was long considered monotypic, with her, was assigned as the only way the Malagasy bat adhesive disc, which is widespread in eastern Madagascar. Based on morphological differences Myzopoda eventually became manni, which occurs in the west of the island, described in 2007 as a separate species. Genetic studies confirmed the meantime the demarcation.
