Nachtmann (glass manufacturer)
The FX Nachtmann Lead Crystal Werke GmbH is a manufacturer of lead crystal with its headquarters in Neustadt an der Waldnaab. In addition to industrial mass production of glasses of all kinds (also known as semi-finished products that are sold for further processing, for example, of glass cutting shops ) are also manufactured craft / artistic standard glass objects.
History
The FX Nachtmann Bleikristallwerke GmbH was founded John Michael Nachtmann (1796-1884) in Unterhütte ( Glashütte Herzogau ) at Waldmuenchen 1834 by the glass cutter ( engraver ). He established drinking glasses, bottles and pitchers with 25 glassmakers. His son Franz Xaver Nachtmann (1830-1892) took over the operation in 1851 and moved him to Ödhütte (now Voith Mountain Hut) between forest Munich and Furth im Wald. 1866, the production moved 45 employees to Seebach hut at Bavarian Eisenstein. 1892 took over Johann Frank ( 1856-1905 ) the operation while maintaining the company name FX Nachtmann.
1901, the companies of Zacharias Frank ( 1869-1944 ) was acquired and relocated the company headquarters with 100 employees to Neustadt an der Waldnaab. The glass factory Riedlhutte leased in 1905 and acquired in 1907.
The introduction of lead crystal was 1912. Riedlhutte The site was expanded in 1920 and built a new plant in Amberg. 1945, destroyed by the war production were renewed and made in the sites Neustadt and Riedlhutte lead crystal.
From the company FX Nachtmann 1969 FX Nachtmann Bleikristallwerke KG. In 1979 the change of the legal form of a GmbH. In grazing north of the foundation stone for the third lead crystal factory was established in 1983.
The traditional crystal glass Spiegelau Spiegelau including its plant II, the glassworks Gistl in Frauenau, was acquired in 1990. With the formation of crystal glass factory in Amberg GmbH came 1991 on production cooperation with Rosenthal AG ( Selb ), with the technical and commercial leadership remained at night man. From the company was founded in 1993 the FX Nachtmann Nachtmann Crystal AG.
The participation of Rosenthal AG at the crystal factory in Amberg was taken over in 1995 by the FX Nachtmann Crystal AG, since 1997 thus holds a capital stake of almost 90%.
2004 saw the acquisition of the Nachtmann Crystal AG by Riedel glass.
For the company in 2004 about 1,600 people were employed.
In June 2009, the management of the Riedel glass announced that it would in future focus only on three factories and the work is concluded in Riedlhutte end of the year. This means for 180 employees losing their jobs, 30 employees of the work was the acquisition offered in other works. Lead crystal is to be produced in the future only at the plant in pastures.
Sales of F.X. Nachtmann Bleikristallwerke GmbH amounted to 47.1 million euros in 2010.
