The castle of Nagahama

The Castle Nagahama (长 浜 城jap, Nagahama - jo ) is a historic Japanese castle in Nagahama in Shiga Prefecture in Japan.

History

The Nagahama Castle was built in the years 1575-1576 Hideyoshi Hashiba ( later known as Toyotomi Hideyoshi ) in the former village Kunitomo as lowland castle ( hirashiro ). Previously, he had ruled by Odani Castle, but that was becoming increasingly difficult, as it was this is a hilltop castle ( yamashiro ). Hideyoshi was replaced after the battle of Shizugatake in 1583 by Yamanouchi Kazutoyo as lord of the castle. Kazutoyo in turn was replaced after the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 by Naito Nobunari. In 1615 the castle was razed by order of the Tokugawa government and parts of it were used in the construction of Hikone Castle.

Current

The Nagahama Castle is a park today. Most of the castle is in ruins, but the main tower ( tenshu ) was reconstructed in 1983 from concrete. Inside the Historical Museum of Nagahama is housed.
