Nagasaki Naval Training Center

The Naval Training Center Nagasaki (Japanese长崎 海军 伝 习 所, Nagasaki kaigun denshūjo ) was founded in 1855 by the government of the Shogun in Japan. The decision to establish this institution with the purchase of advanced, steam-powered warships, was part of the modernization activities of the Bakufu after the forced opening of Japan by Matthew Perry in 1854.

The center was built by the Dutch settlement on the island of Dejima in Nagasaki, where the Dutch transfer of know -how was perfectly possible. The director was Nagai Naoyuki. The furnishings were the first Japanese steamship, the Kanko Maru, which had been passed in 1855 by the Government of the Netherlands to Japan.

Admiral Enomoto Takeaki was one of the graduates of the training center.
