Nageia

Nageia is a genus of six species in the family of Podocarpus plants ( Podocarpaceae ). They are also called Nagibäume

Description

Nageia species are upright shrubs or trees, the plant height 1 reach to about 50 meters. The leaves are needle-like but lanceolate, they are tough and leathery; they are 5-20 cm in length and 2-6 cm wide.

Most species are dioecious getrenntgeschlechtig ( dioecious ). The seeds are surrounded by a seed coat ( aril ).

Dissemination

The Nageia types have their areas in the tropical forests of Asia and Australasia. They have a focus in Southeast Asia.

In the genus Nageia there are six types:

  • Nageia fleuryi ( Hickel ) de Laub.
  • Nageia formosensis ( Dummer ) C.N. page
  • Nageia maxima ( de Laub. ) De Laub.
  • Nageia motleyi ( Parl ) de Laub.
  • Real Nagibaum ( Nageia nagi ( Thunb. ) Kuntze; syn. Podocarpus nagi ( Thunb. ) Pilg. ), Origin: South Japan, Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan
  • Nageia wallichiana (C. Presl ) Kuntze
