Nagytétény Castle

The Nagytétény Castle ( German Schloss Großteting ) is located on the southwestern outskirts of the Hungarian capital Budapest. The castle dates back to a Gothic castle of the 13th century Tétény family. The remains of the earlier building form the core of the present castle. On its back, the castle is adjacent to the excavation site of the Roman fort CAMPONA.

Castle Nagytétény received its present shape around 1766, when it was built for the Baron Száraz after the model of the castle of Gödöllő almost completely new. The multi-winged Baroque building suffered heavy damage during World War II, however, took place in the past few years an extensive restoration. The castle now houses the Budapest Museum of European furniture and clothing and is open to visitors. The once baroque gardens have survived to the present day in its basic structure.
