Nahanarvali

The Nahanarvaler (Latin Nahanarvali, also Naharvali ) were a Germanic tribe. The Roman historian Tacitus counted together with the Hariern, Helvekonen, Manimern and Halisionen to the five major tribes of the Lugier. Tacitus also reports:

" In the Nahanarvalern one shows a grove with an ancient cult. Head is a priest in female costume, but the gods are in the Roman conception Castor and Pollux match. This is in fact the essence of the deity, her name is alkene. But there are no gods, no evidence of a foreign cult; but she is worshiped as brothers, as young men. "

So Tacitus portrays a cult, which the Germans are said to have operated around the Alcis brothers. As interpretatio romana he gives the the brothers Castor and Pollux, the Dioscuri, to ( for a detailed interpretation of the passage see also the article Alcis ). For the etymological origin of the name, there are several theories. The Nahanarvaler later went to the people of the Vandals.
