Naim Frashëri

Naim Frashëri ( born May 25, 1846 in Frashër, † October 20, 1900 in Kizil Toprak, Kadıköy ) was an Albanian writer. For the Albanian national literature, he is the most important writer of the 19th century and the national movement Rilindja. To date, he is a frequently read classic.

Life

Coming from the south of Albania, he received his first education at a Bektashi tekke of. 1865 moved Frashëris family to Ioannina ( Janina Albanian ) in Greece, where he teamed up with his younger brother Sami high school Zosimea attended and graduated in 1869 with success.

Naim Frashëri then joined the Ottoman government service. In Istanbul he was in 1870 a few months working in the Office of Printing Arts. A tuberculosis disease forced him out of the city on the Bosporus to the healthier climate southern Albania to return. He first worked as a tax official in Berat and then from 1872 to 1877 at the customs in Saranda. During this time he wrote his first poems, which were also published in 1885. Except in Albanian wrote Frashëri Turkish, Persian and Greek. In addition, he read French and Latin. He was one of the few men to whom the literary culture of the West and the East was both familiar and valuable.

Was returned to Istanbul Frashëri the most important author of appearing there Albanian magazines Dituria ( 1884-85 ) and Drita ( after 1885 ), which were directed by his brother Sami Frashëri. He wrote not only poetry but also texts, which should be used in the first Albanian-language schools for teaching. His livelihood earned the poet but in the service of the Turkish Ministry of Education, the Commission on letterpress ( = censor ) he was in charge. His books have been published mostly in Bucharest, because the pressure in the Albanian language was not permitted at this time in the Ottoman Empire.

Work

Naim Frashëri concentrated mainly on the romantic poetry, which he designed in the classical pattern. So his most famous work Bagëti e is based bujqësija ( cattle ranching and agriculture ) to Virgil Bukolika.

Honors

The mortal remains Frashëris Naim and his brother's Abdyl in 1937 transferred from Istanbul to Tirana and buried in honor graves. In Tirana and other Albanian cities there are numerous monuments to the poet; in Bucharest remind statues to him.
