Naivasha

Naivasha is a town in the Rift Valley province in Kenya. Naivasha is located in the district of Nakuru, north-west of Nairobi on lake Naivasha.

Naivasha is located on the route of the Uganda Railway and on the highway between Nairobi and Nakuru.

On 25 September 2003, the Convention was signed on security issues of the Naivasha Agreement in Naivasha.

In January 2008, Naivasha came during the riots in Kenya in the international headlines when it was fired from army helicopters on an angry crowd.

Economy and infrastructure

The main economic activity is agriculture, around Naivasha are mainly cut flowers, especially roses, grown for export. The largest cut rose farm in Naivasha is Sher Karuturi with around 3000 employees.

Apart from agriculture, the city lives mainly by tourists staying here on the way to the national parks Hell's Gate and Longonot and Mount Longonot.

As a starting point for tourists Naivasha has several hotels of different price ranges, banks, shops, restaurants, schools and institutions of primary care.

In Naivasha Kenya are the only vineyards in which to grow for white and red wine grapes since 1985.
