Nakshatra

The Nakshatra ( Devanagari: नक्षत्र ) are a division of the ecliptic into 27 lunar asterisms in traditional Indian astronomy and astrology. The simple translation is: star, moon, house, planetary alignment, the one of the lunar mansions is assigned. They roughly correspond to the days of the Sidereal month, ie the moon rises every day in a different Nakshatra. The twelve months of the Hindu lunisolar calendar are named after twelve of the lunar stations.

In the mythology of the Hindus, the 27 Nakshatras are the daughters of Daksha and all were given to the moon god Chandra ( Soma ) for marriage. This preferred Rohini above all others, that the others were jealous and complained to Daksha. When his appeal with Soma not fertilized, he cursed the moon, he should abmergeln. Since, however, were the daughters of pity and begged for mercy. Daksha could not undo the curse, but slow down, so that the moon decreases only 14 days and then increases again for 14 days.

The Nakshatra of the system ( about 1000 BC ) fully narrated already in the Yajur Veda and place in Asia -wide dissemination, and it is debatable whether the system was created by the Indians or the Chinese. In contrast, it is clear that the Arabs, nor in pre-Islamic times, have taken over and transformed the system of lunar mansions ( Manazil al - Qamar ).

The position of the Moon in the Nakshatra plays an important role in Indian Astrology Jyotish. So the sun is not like in Western astrology to be regarded as preferred planet but the Moon ( Chandra ). His position in the horoscope, which Janma Kundali is called, shows the actual birth star and its associated meanings in this Vedic science.
