Namadgi-Nationalpark

The Namadgi National Park (English Namadgi National Park ) is located in the southwestern part of the Australian Capital Territory, located about 40 km from the Australian capital Canberra. The 1061 km ² large nature reserve covers part of the northern end of the Australian Alps. The park takes up more than half of the capital territory and borders the Kosciuszko National Park and the Brindabella National Park and three other nature reserves in the area of the Great Dividing Range. It was founded in 1984. Through the Namadgi National Park leads the northernmost section of the Australian Alps Walking Track, a 650 km long distance path.

The name comes from the indigenous Aboriginal Namadgi and refers to the situated south-west of Canberra mountains. The area has an important cultural significance for the indigenous population. Since April 2001, was contractually recognized the role of indigenous people with the Government of the Australian Capital Territory and established a joint management of the site.
