Namib High School

The Namib High School ( NHS) ( German Namib High School, formerly German Swakopmund Secondary School ) is a secondary school ( secondary school ) in the Namibian coastal town of Swakopmund. The school is a public educational institution, which still (partly in addition to English ) uses German as the language of instruction.

History

The NHS was founded as the first formal educational institution in Swakopmund in 1912. On October 18, 1913 126 students attended the school operating at the " Städtische Realschule with primary school " on. Between 1919 and 1929 the school was called " Swakopmund Primary School ". Until 1945 the school was known as the " reform secondary school ". 1946 the school's name was changed to " Swakopmund High School ". At this time students of different mother tongues attended the class together. With expansion of the school offer in Swakopmund mid-1970s, the NHS in 1981 then to the " German High School Swakopmund " became the " German School Swakopmund ". German at the time was the sole language of instruction. Since Namibia's independence is taught in the NHS in English and German. This has since been a compulsory subject for all students in all grade levels.
