Nana Alexandria

Nana Alexandria (Georgian ნანა ალექსანდრია; born October 13, 1949 in Poti, Georgia ) is the women since 1976 chess grandmaster.

Nana Alexandria was in the years 1966, 1968 ( shared ) and 1969 national chess champion of women in the USSR. Twice she was able to qualify as a challenger for the Women's World Cup, both times but they could not win the world title. In 1975, she lost against Nona Gaprindashvili ( 3, = 1, -8 ), 1981, they missed a draw ( 4 = 8, -4 ) is just in Maia Tschiburdanidse.

At the Chess Olympiad of the ladies she was successful with the team of the USSR in the years 1969, 1974 in Nice, 1978 in Buenos Aires, in 1980 to Malta, 1982 in Lucerne and 1986 in Dubai. With it, the crew of the Soviet Union won gold six times, while four received a gold medal for the best board result.

Nana Alexandria is evaluated in October 2008 with an Elo rating of 2342. It occurs as an active player on only rare because it has taken over as Women's Officer at the FIDE official duties.

After Alexandria a garment fabric and a perfume places were named with "Nana" in the Soviet Union. The perfume was also named after Gaprindashvili variety " Nona " acted like in chess piece shaped bottles. In memory of Alexandria's success carries a chess festival in Pori the name " Nana Alexandria Cup". Also the Tbilisi Chess Club NTN Tbilisi named after the first names of abbreviations Gaprindashvili, world champion Tigran Petrosian and Alexandria.
