Nancy Jo Powell

Nancy Jo Powell ( b. 1947 in Cedar Falls, Iowa) is an American diplomat.

Life

Nancy Jo Powell joined the Foreign Service 1997 and was accredited in Islamabad, Kathmandu and Ottawa. She was employed in the U.S. State Department in the departments of Nepal and migration. From 1990 to 1992 Powell was Deputy U.S. Ambassador in Lomé and to 1993 Consul General in Calcutta. Subsequently, she was until 1995 Counsellor in New Delhi and until 1997 the Deputy Ambassador in Dhaka. After that she was from 1995 to 1997 Ambassador to Uganda.

From July 1999 to June 2001 was Powell Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Department of Africa. After that, she served from 2001 to 2002 as Ambassador to Ghana and from 2002 to 2004 as ambassador to Pakistan before they came to Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Department of Law from November 2004 to March 2005. From March 14 to November 25, 2005, she was Assistant Secretary of the Office of International Drugs and Crime, and from 2006 Commissioner for infectious diseases. In the years 2006 to 2007 was Powell commissioner for intelligence services in South Asia and in the U.S.; then she joined the ambassadorship in Nepal. In 2009, she headed the Human Resources Department of the Foreign Ministry.
