The Nangpa La (Chinese囊 帕拉 山口) is a mountain pass at 5716 meters above sea level in the west of Cho Oyu, the eight highest mountain on earth, the Himalayas on the Nepal-China border. The Nangpa La represents the highest trade route of the Himalayas and is used as a connection between the Khumbu Sherpa and Tibetans for about 800 years.
After the invasion of the Chinese into Tibet the Nangpa La lost its importance as a caravan route due to the border closure. By 2001, the region was closed military zone. There are now but again yak caravans that carry cheap products from China to Khumbu.
