Nanoq

Arctic open-air museum Nanoq (Inuit for polar bear ) is located in Jakobstad, Finland. There is a museum with exhibitions on the polar region with a focus on Greenland.

The museum has an exhibition on various expeditions. For example, the balloon gondola of the tragic expedition of Salomon August Andrée, material for 1773 expedition started from Constantine Phipps, 2nd Baron Mulgrave to Spitsbergen, as well as documents related to the polar explorers Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen. Other exhibits are hunting and fishing equipment from the 17th century to the present day art and Inuit soapstone sculptures and paintings in particular.

In the outdoor area there are 18 typical for the polar region building. Among others, a peat house, a hunting lodge from Spitsbergen, a mining camp from Lapland, a smoke sauna, a commander of the bunker, a church and several sheds and shelters.
