Nantou City

Nantou (Chinese南投市, Pinyin Nantou Shì, W.-G. Nan -t'ou Shih, PEH oē - jī Lâm -thaw chhi ) is a town with 100,000 inhabitants well in the Republic of China on Taiwan. It is the capital of Nantou County in central Taiwan.

Location

Nantou is located in the west of the county on the border with County Zhanghua. The city is located on the western shore of the left Maoluo River, whose valley is separated by the Bagua hills of the coastal plain in the west. East of Natou rises the central mountain range of Taiwan. The city is located on Highway 3, which connects to the major cities of western and northern Taiwan. Nantou has no rail connection.

History

The region around Nantou was settled in the 17th century by Chinese immigrants. 1759 a Yamen was established in the city. Under Japanese rule over the island belonged to the Nantou Prefecture Taichū ( Taizhong ). Even under the Republic of China was one of Nantou County from 1945 to Taizhong, set up 1950, the Nantou County and the city was determined to his seat.
