Nanyang Technological University

The Nanyang Technological University (English Nanyang Technological University, abbreviated NTU; Mandarin :南洋 理工 大学- Nanyang Daxue Lǐgōng abbreviated as南大; Malay: Universiti Teknologi Nanyang ) is a university in the city-state of Singapore.

The 2 km ² Yunnan Garden campus is located 25 km outside the city center in the district of southwestern Jurong. There was since 1956 the private Chinese Nanyang University to this in 1980 with the National University of Singapore was forcibly united. The following year, the Nanyang Technological Institute was founded, which in 1991 to today's university was.

The University is today ( faculties) divided into four colleges, in a total of 12 schools (institutes ) are divided. The focus is on engineering and applied science, whereby business, arts and humanities are taught.

Since 2001 there is also the National Institute of Education (abbreviated NIE) on the campus of NTU, this is responsible for the training of teachers of secondary school teachers in Singapore.

Along about 38,000 students are educated at the two institutions. On the campus are out the institutes also numerous student residences, dining halls, sports facilities, several fast food restaurants, a supermarket and residential facilities for the employees of the University.
