Narayan Hari Apte

Hari Narayan Apte ( Marathi: नारायण हरि आपटे, Narayan Hari Apte, born July 11, 1889 in Samdoli, Bombay Presidency; † November 14, 1971 in Koregaon, Maharashtra ) was an Indian writer, editor and screenwriter. He wrote in marathischer language and had a decisive influence on the development of the genre of social reformist Marathi literature in the 1920s and 1930s.

Life

Apte came from the village in the district of Sangli Samdoli and was influenced as a writer of novels and collections of short stories from the ideas of social reform movements of the 19th century in Maharashtra. His stories deal with historical and social themes that are located in the everyday life of the middle class. In 1924 he founded the publishing house " Apte & Co", which issued, inter alia, existing from 1915, literary- political magazine " Alhaad ".

By Baburao Painter 1925 he came to the film and wrote screenplays for Marathi films, mostly by his own literary works. His best-known works were produced in the 1930s for V. Shantaram in the Prabhat Film Company. He also worked with directors Datta Dharmadhikari, Shantaram Athavale and Dinkar Patil.
