Narberth Road and Maenclochog Railway

The Narberth Road and Maenclochog Railway was a British railway company in Pembrokeshire in Wales.

History

The Narberth Road and Maenclochog Railway was established on June 24, 1872. Initiator was the Member of Parliament and owner of a slate quarry Edward Cropper. Since he financed the construction of the line, together with the slate quarry owner Macauley, was only a permission of the Board of Trade necessary and no law of Parliament. The company built a railway from Narberth Road ( at Clynderwen ) about Maenclochog to the slate quarries at Rosebush in the Presceli Hills. The opening of the 13 -kilometer route took place on September 19, 1876. In Narberth Road was a connection to the Great Western Railway. The route mainly served the removal of broken slate, but in addition was also a passenger offered. The cost for the railway line and the opening of the quarries was estimated at 60,000 pounds sterling.

The Rosebush and Fishguard Railway was planning 1881 takeover of the company by a railway between Clynderwen and the port of Fishguard to produce. This project failed and was implemented in 1884 by the North Pemroke and Fishguard Railway. These acquired the Narberth Road and Maenclochog Railway.
