Narcissus of Jerusalem

Narcissus of Jerusalem (c. 100 in Greece, † after 213 in Jerusalem, and Narcissus of Jerusalem) is a Catholic and Orthodox saint, the holiness, patience and faith distinguished. He should have become 117 years old. His Catholic feast day is October 29, his Orthodox Memorial August 7.

Narcissus was of Greek origin. According to tradition, Narcissus was at least 80 years old when he became the 30th bishop of Jerusalem was 185. Alexander of Jerusalem, to the Narcissus 212 very old man took coadjutor, wrote this year in a letter that Narcissus had reached an age of 116 years.

Legend has it that he turned water into lamp oil for his church.

In art Narcissus is sometimes represented as a bishop, holding a blooming thistle. In most cases there is a water jug near him. An angel is often shown carrying his soul to heaven.

Its name comes from the Latin or Greek and means the daffodil and the Solidifying.
