Narrowcasting

The concept of narrowcasting (English, about narrowband radio ) coined JCR Licklider at MIT in 1968. Licklider it designates a variety of specialized, tailored to specific target groups programs. His vision led to the creation of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Later narrowcasting became a buzzword for all the hoped from cable TV and limited redeemed advantages such as time-shifted viewing of television programs ( later realized with the VCR ) and the great program and diversity of opinion (at least partially improved by satellite transmissions ).

In Internet narrowcasting designated deals that are especially tailored precisely to a specific audience. Such approaches have been implemented, for example in podcasting, netcasting and webcasting, the Broad Catch as well as streaming media.
