Năsăud

Năsăud ( German Nuss village, nut village; Hungarian Naszód ) is a town in the district Bistrita-Nasaud in Romania.

Location

Năsăud located in the north of Transylvania at Somes River Large, about 20 km north of the district capital Bistrita ( Bistrita ).

History

The name probably comes from the Slavic Năsăud " nas voda " meaning " near the water". Another name is Nußdorf ( " Walnut Tree Village " ), the Transylvanian Saxon name of the city in the Middle Ages.

Năsăud was a Habsburg border town.

In Năsăud was from the 20th century an industrial Town, both during the communist period and after the revolution of 1989.

In Năsăud are still some buildings from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Notable in this context, the Greek Catholic Church and the former military headquarters of the Habsburg era, now a museum.

Population

In the town almost exclusively live Romanians. In the 2002 census, known from the then 10,582 inhabitants 10,088 for Romanian, Hungarian 100 for, 12 for German, 3 for Ukrainian, Russian 2 for 1 on Turkish and 2 to various nationalities. 374 described themselves as Gypsies ..

Traffic

By Năsăud the national road 17D runs. At the eastern end, the National Road 17C turns south to the city of Bistrita. Here the railway line Beclean pe Somes Rodna Veche - runs.
