Nass El Ghiwane

Nass El Ghiwane (Arabic ناس الغيوان, DMG NaS al - ġīwān ) are a set up in Casablanca in 1971, Moroccan music group, also called the " Rolling Stones in Morocco ". It makes use of a wide repertoire of traditional Moroccan and African music, such as the ritual music of the Gnawa, and took turn about influence on the development of modern pop Raï maghebrinischen.

Is headed by Nass El Ghiwane Bendir player and singer Omar Sayed, next to him are the oud player Allal Yaala, the banjo player Abdelkrim Chifa and Rachid Batma and Hamid brothers with their instruments T'bol and Gimbri currently members of the group. Died in 1997 poet and composer Laarbi Batma the group had been influenced for a long time and also wrote the majority of their songs.

In Europe and America, the group will rezipiert mainly as part of world music. In this context, Peter Gabriel their piece published Ya Looked at Passion - Sources, the addition of music to the movie soundtrack of The Last Temptation of Christ, and made them known to a wider Western audience.
