Nasser al-Shami

Naser Al Shami (born 27 June 1982) is a Syrian boxer.

Career

His first international championships denied Al Shami in 2001 where he retired prematurely but at the Mediterranean Games. At the Asia Championships 2002, he finished in third place and reached the same position even at the Asian Games 2002.

At the Asia Championships 2004 Al Shami won with a final victory over Paweł Storożuk, Kazakhstan, the gold medal and qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games, in which he claimed victories over Emmanuel Izonritei, Nigeria ( 30:17 ), and Wugar Alakparow, Azerbaijan (DQ 4 ), the semi-final against Odlanier Solís which he, however, Cuba (RSC 3 ), and thus lost the Olympic bronze medal.

2005 Al Shami won the bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games and the following year also at the Asian Games. The Pan Arab Games 2007 he won the gold medal, thus ending his career.

Others

On June 4, 2011 Al Shami attended demonstrations in the city of Hama as part of the Syrian civil war part and was hit by gunfire from security forces six times in the upper and lower leg and also lost by a ball the little finger of his left hand. Through the mediation of a Syrian doctor Al Shami was in a Dortmunder hospital and was operated on there.
