Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest

The International Hot Dog Eating Contest is since 1916 every year on the American National Day ( 4th of July, Independence Day ) in Coney Iceland (New York), at Nathan 's Famous, a traditional hot dog chain, discharged. Organizer of the event is the International Federation of Competitive Eating, ( IOFCE ). Whoever wins this victory, which can eat within twelve minutes, the most hot dogs. Since 2008, the time was reduced back to the original time of 10 minutes.

History

The competition is supposedly back on four immigrants who wanted to clarify in a hot dog eating at Nathan's on July 4, 1916 of them was the most patriotic. Was won by thirteen sausages Joe Alger; another source called James Mullen. Since then, the competition was held here almost every year. In several public Trials eating the participants have to qualify for the final. The winner will in addition to a cash prize and the official world championship title, the " Yellow Mustard Belt ". The event will be broadcast live for an audience of millions on TV.

Since 1997 the trophy was firmly in Japanese hands. Longtime champion Takeru Kobayashi was the Japanese who defended his title six times. 2007 celebrated the Americans during the 92nd competition Joey Chestnut, who brought back with 66 against 63 hot dogs the title after a decade in the U.S., while setting a new world record. Kobayashi suffered by his own admission this year to a TMJ arthritis and recently pulled wisdom tooth. Joey Chestnut successfully defended his title in 2008 and 2009 and increase the world record 68 hot dogs ( 2009). In 2013 he was able to increase his own record to 69.

The women's world record currently stands at 45 hot dogs (2013 ) and is held by Sonya Thomas.
