Nathaniel Carl Goodwin

Nathaniel Carl Goodwin ( often short: Nat C. Goodwin, born July 25, 1857 in Boston, † January 31, 1919 in New York City ) was an American actor. He stepped in theater, vaudeville and in films and was married to his third wife, the actress Maxine Elliott.

Life

Nat Goodwin was born in 1857 in Boston. As a student and a student, he noticed his mimic abilities, it matured, the desire to be a stage actor, and he began to read Shakespeare and to take acting lessons. In 1873 he graduated from college, moved to New York and worked as a salesman and janitor. In his first appearance at the Providence Opera House was staggered him out of sheer fright the language. So he had to work as a salesman in Boston for the time being again. But he presented constantly with private and public occasions, his facial expressions until he got an engagement at the Athenaeum, in which he imitated well-known actors. He was so successful that Joseph Brad wrote a skit for him. In 1875 he had his first speaking role in the play of Tony Pastor and a little later he appeared with Minnie Palmer at the Fourteenth Street Theatre. From now on, Goodwin took over more and more important roles.

1882 Godwin was his own manager and produced in the following years, many operas of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Between 1912 and 1916 Goodwin also appeared in a number of films. In Oliver Twist, he played the role of Fagin.

He died in 1919 in New York. He was buried in the Milton Cemetery in Milton Massachusetts.
