Nathaniel Garrow

Nathaniel Garrow ( born April 25, 1780 in Barnstable, Massachusetts, † March 3, 1841 in Auburn, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1827 and 1829 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Nathaniel Garrow was born during the War of Independence in Barnstable County. He attended public schools. Then he went to sea. In 1796 he moved to Auburn. He was in 1809 appointed Justice of the Peace. Between 1815 and 1819, and 1821-1825 he was sheriff in Cayuga County. Politically, he was a member of the Jacksonian Group.

In the congressional elections of 1826 for the 20th Congress Garrow was in the 24th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Charles Kellogg on March 4, 1827. He retired after March 3, from 1829, from the Congress.

Garrow was in February 1837 U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of New York - a post he held until his death in March 1841. He died on March 3, 1841 in Auburn. His body was then buried in the family cemetery on his estate, but later reburied at the Fort Hill Cemetery in Aubrun.
