The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, ( Ba.: Нацыянальная акадэмія навук Беларусі; ru: Национальная академия наук Беларуси, НАН Беларуси, НАНБ; s: .. National Academy of Sciences of Belarus ( NASB ) ) is a state Academy of Sciences in Belarus.

History

The Academy was founded on October 13, 1928 from the Belarusian Institute of Culture ( " Inbelkult " ) out and officially established with a state decree on January 1, 1929 Founding president was the historian Usewalad Ihnatouski. Between 1928 and 1936 she was renamed as the Byelorussian Academy of Sciences, 1936-1991 as the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR and between 1991 and 1997 as the Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The Academy was one of the leading scientific academy in the former Soviet Union countries. Since 1997, the Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko influences the Academy by decrees in the structure and direction of research.

The Academy is the highest academic institution Belarusian society at present, the research base for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Belarus.

Organization

In addition to the headquarters of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences in Minsk numerous institutes in Brest, Gomel, Grodno, Mogilev and Vitebsk are located.

The Academy is divided into seven departments:
