National Alliance of Liberals

The National Alliance of Liberals (NAL ) was a political party in Ghana. Chairman of NAL was Komla Agbeli Gbedemah, a former minister ( Minister of Finance and Minister of Health ) in the government of the Convention People's Party under Kwame Nkrumah.

The NAL was dominated by the people and the interests of the party with Ewe also important influences of the ruling party to 1966 Convention People's Party (CPP ).

Development

The chairman of the NAL, Komla Agbeli Gbedemah was dismissed shortly after the elections of 29 August 1969 the Supreme Court of his parliamentary seat, because of the conviction for serious financial crimes. Leaderless, the NAL closed with three smaller parties, chaired by Joe Appiah together for the Justice Party in October 1970.

The NAL came in the elections to the National Assembly ( National Assembley ) on 29 August 1969 during the military government of the National Liberation Council in the transition to democracy and scored 29 of the 140 seats, or about 30.4 percent of the vote. The NAL ( after renaming the JP) was the main opposition party during the reign of Prime Minister Kofi Busia Abrefa. The NAL, or the JP was prohibited by the general prohibition party after the second military coup in Ghana on January 13, Ignatius Kutu Acheampong 1972 and dissolved.
