National Assembly of Thailand

The National Assembly ( Thai: รัฐสภา ไทย, RTGS: Ratthasapha Thai ) is the bicameral parliament of Thailand. It consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The Parliament was created in 1932, after the so-called Siamese revolution that brought the transition to constitutional monarchy. According to the latest constitution of 2007, the House of Representatives with 500 seats is partly elected proportionally about nationwide party lists, partly directly by majority vote in the 375 constituencies. The 150 -member Senate comprises each a directly elected representatives of the 76 provinces, the other Senators are chosen by an electoral committee and appointed by the king. The President of the National Assembly is ex officio always the President of the House of Representatives, since 2011 is the Somsak Kiatsuranont. His deputy is the Senate President, since 2011 Teeradej Meepien.
