National Carillon

The National Carillon is a carillon tower ( Carillon ) in the Australian capital Canberra. It is located on the island of Iceland in Aspen Lake Burley Griffin. The Carillon is a gift from the British Government to the Australian people on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of Canberra. Officially opened it was on April 26, 1970 by Queen Elizabeth II, the Australian head of state.

Designed by the Western Australian architects Cameron, Chisholm & Nicol 50 -meter-high triangular tower consists of reinforced concrete slabs with an eye-catching white color. He is supported by three triangular pillars; in the western pillar there is a maintenance elevator, in the eastern a lift. All three piers have a fire escape. The floor is covered with large hexagonal plates. At night, the tower is illuminated with floodlights.

Carillons have at least 23 bells have to be considered as such. At the National Carillon it is their 55 (53 to the conversion in 2004). The bells weigh between seven kilograms and six tonnes and include a chromatic scale of four and a half octaves. The increased -lying part of the tower consists of three levels: Below is the level with the keyboard, a keyboard exercise and a dressing room, in the middle of the layer with the bells. There is a small observation room with a kitchen that can be rented for private occasion About the bells.
