National Democratic Convention (South Africa)

The National Democratic Convention ( NADECO ) is a South African party.

Foundation

It was founded in August 2005 by Ziba Jiyane. Jiyane had been previously owned by his former party Inkatha Freedom Party ( IFP) deposed as national chairman after he had accused at the end of the previous month as part of an IFP youth event in Umlazi, near Durban his party a dictatorial character. The new party was a Christian Democratic orientation and confessed to a market economy. In the same month there was a meeting between Jiyane and the former President Frederik Willem de Klerk, the his old party, the New National Party had ( NNP), leaving, as he did not want mitvollziehen their absorption into the ANC. De Klerk expressed to want to follow the way of the party further, since the end of the NNP had left a gap in the South African political landscape.

Development

By transfers from the IFP Group in the South African Parliament, the party was able to gain four seats. By the following year, however, there was also in the new party to tensions. Three of the IFP members who were followed for Jiyane NADECO, returned in April 2006 back to their old party, when they saw bar is independent of the IFP identity a one-man fan club in the NADECO. In August of that year Jiyane was also in his new party deposed by the party leadership after he, in turn, three members ( two national and one from the province of KwaZulu -Natal) had given birth to their function. The depositions of the three members of Parliament were repealed by the party executive. Hawu Mbatha, the deposed by Jiyane MPs in KwaZulu- Natal, took over the party leadership. Mbatha had been in the NADECO in his province Chairman of the African Christian Democratic Party prior to its entry and had been unable to reach an agreement with Jiyane about it before this leadership contest, who should replace in May 2006 fatally injured in a motorcycle accident Treasurer General John Aulsebrook. Aulsebrook was another prominent former IFP member and there was the function of the speaker's party occupied. In the past five months, two other important members were already come in a violent way their lives.

The tensions within the party, however, went even further in 2007. Jiyane, meanwhile, had again the foundation of a new party with the name " South African Democratic Congress " ( SADECO ) announced, and after the executive committee had come to the conclusion that the change from 18 local councils even before the 15-day time window within which a such a change is formally possible imminent to Jiyanes party, he caused their suspension. This was confirmed in September in a process, but was not allowed to replace the council until the end of said time window, the NADECO. Immediately after the court decision, the suspended councilors to the creation of another new party with the name " Federal Congress " ( Fedcon ) rather than go to SADECO. By setting it up, there was a legal uncertainty, as there is no provision in the Municipal Code, which deals with the case of crossing a suspended council. With more party defections to other parties such as the IFP NADECO lost 22 of its 24 seats so far in municipal councils of the province of KwaZulu -Natal. The entrained by the 18 excluded former NADECO members seats were subsequently the subject of a new process, the Supreme Court in Pietermaritzburg eventually ruled in favor of NADECO, so the 18 seats the apostates do not deserve, but to be filled through by-elections and the candidates list of NADECO are.

Election results

In the 2006 local elections, held in KwaZulu -Natal the NADECO reached 1.58 %, which was five strongest party. She was a total of 24 seats in municipal councils gain and, in some counties quite a power factor as the IFP there, decided to transfer it to a negative ANC coalition.

At the national level NADECO has not previously participated since the last elections in 2004, before the founding of the Party, took place. Currently, the party holds four seats, the result from the previous crossings from the IFP.
