National Earthquake Information Center

The National Earthquake Information Center, National Earthquake Information Center ( NEIC ), is an establishment of the Geological Survey of the United States, which was built in 1966 in Rockville, Maryland as part of the National Maritime Service ( National Ocean Survey) and transferred in 1973 to the Geological Survey of the United States. Since 1973 is the center in Golden ( Colorado).

It is intended locations worldwide every major earthquake as quickly as possible and determine its strength to make this information available to scientists, international agencies and relevant institutions as well as the public. Furthermore, it is the task of the center, scientists and the public to provide a comprehensive seismic database are archived in the data from the national and global seismograph network, and promote research regarding the methods of measurement, using the earthquake can be located better and by operation of an earthquake, a better understanding can be obtained.
