National Institute of Genetics

National Institute of Genetics ( NIG, National Genetics Institute ) is the English name of the Kokuritsu idengaku Kenkyujo (Japanese国立 遗 伝 学 研究所, " National Research Institute of Genetics "; short Idenken ), a Japanese device in Mishima. It was founded in 1949 as a genetic research institute and participates in academic education. Organized as it is daigaku Kyodo Riyo kikan Hojin (大学 共同 利用 机关 法人), as an inter -university institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

It also serves as the center for various genetic resources, operates a DNA sequencing center and houses the DNA Data Bank of Japan ( DDBJ ).
