National Museum of Nature and Science

The National Museum of Natural Sciences (Japanese国立 科学 博物馆, Kokuritsu Kagaku Hakubutsukan; official English name: Museum of Nature and Science, translation of the English translation " Museum of Nature and Science " ) is one of the world's leading institutes for the study of natural history and the history of science and technology. It is operated by its own self -regulatory body ( Dokuritsu Gyosei Hojin ) of worship and Science Ministry.

The museum boasts the richest career of all museums in Japan and takes a leading role in Japanese museum landscape. In 1871 his first solo exhibition in Yushima Seido has been established. In January 1877, the first department of a museum building in Ueno Park was completed. This date is considered the official year of the founding of the museum. On September 1, 1923 all museum facilities and exhibits were destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake. Until the end of 1930 a new museum building was completed, the opening ceremony took place in the presence of the Showa Tenno on 2 November of the following year. Extensive renovations and restructuring in 2007, the 130th anniversary of the founding completed. Opened in April 2007, Japan Gallery, was recorded in June 2008 as an important national cultural property. Facilities at the museum include beside the main road in Ueno in Tokyo District Taitō the Institute for Nature Study, the Center of the History of Japanese Industrial Technology, a branch in Hyakunincho in Shinjuku district and the Botanical Garden of Tsukuba.

The museum's collections include more than 3.5 million individual pieces, including a collection of Japanese science of pre- Meiji period.
