History

In 1999, the Australian government commissioned the safety of offshore oil and gas production to check, this was the answer to the declaration of the government on this issue from the year 1998. At the same time, the government and the government of the Northern Territory continuous individual safety regulations and instructions issued in response to this question.

The mission of the Federal Government, by an Independent Review Team (IRT ) has been executed, included an examination of the effectiveness and the proposal to establish a safety authority. The IRT interviewed the operators of offshore facilities, executive bodies and management as well as state regulatory and federal agencies. On 22 May 2003, the government entities that existed on this issue have already been summarized in the Transitional plan and thus was the Nopsa responsible not only for the regional Australian offshore waters, but with the responsibility for the entire Australian coast and she took her work on 1 January 2005.

Safety requirements

The Nospa is responsible for monitoring the safety and security of offshore facilities, ensuring labor safety and safety regulations of the oil and gas industry off the Australian coast. She is responsible for the reduction of bureaucratic burdens of the oil and gas industry in the operation and licensing of facilities that are affected by various legal provisions in order to provide a consistent and comprehensive health and safety system.

Each offshore installation has to develop a safety plan, which must be reviewed by the Nopsa and approve. This plan is designed to help the security risks on investments to minimize and he shall also be practical. The operators of these systems have to operate the principal object of their facilities safely and without risks to health.
