National Parliament of Papua New Guinea

The National Parliament of Papua New Guinea ( National Parliament ) is the unicameral Parliament of Papua New Guinea. It is located in the capital Port Moresby.

111 deputies are directly elected for five-year periods in 111 single-member constituencies in the Parliament.

The last elections were held to 17 July 2012 from June 23. On 4 April 2012, the Parliament had actually decided to postpone the elections for half a year, but after protests against this unconstitutional action, they were still held on time. Compared to the 2007 elections, the number of seats to be filled was increased by 2 from 109 to 111. To the 111 seats who applied 3,435 candidates, including 135 women. The candidates were members of some 46 parties, some of them as candidates as independents. Elected were 108 men and 3 women. A total of 21 parties managed to enter parliament. The turnout was 76.89 %.
