National Patriotic Party

The National Patriotic Party ( NPP abbreviation, German National Patriotic Party) is a political party in Liberia.

It was founded in 1997 after the end of the first Liberian civil war by members of the National Patriotic Front of Liberia.

The party contested the 1997 parliamentary elections, with the NPFL leader Charles Taylor, who served as the presidential candidate of the party. Taylor won the presidential elections with 75 % of votes. The party won 49 of the 64 seats in the House of Representatives and 21 of 26 in the Senate. Through national and international pressure due to the Second Liberian Civil War, Taylor relinquished as president in August 2003. In October of the same year resigned Taylor's successor, Moses Blah, and the members of the Legislature and came over power to the National Transitional Government of Liberia from.

The party contested the election later in 2005. The presidential candidate of the party was Roland Massaquoi, who earned 4.1% of the votes in the poll. The NPP won four seats in the House and four in the Senate.
