National Police (France)

The Police Nationale (formerly the Sûreté Nationale) is next to the Gendarmerie Nationale, the main executive body of police in France. The National Police is responsible for the cities, while the gendarmerie takes over the police functions in rural areas. It is subordinate to the Ministry of Interior and employs about 145,000 people.

History

A precursor of the Police Nationale is the end Eugène François Vidocq 1811 to life gerufende safety authority Sûreté under the auspices of the Paris police. The Sûreté is now regarded as the precursor to all criminal organizations in the world. On April 23, 1941, the French police was nationalized under the Vichy regime and for the first time called Police Nationale. Excluded from the nationalization was only the Prefecture of Police of Paris. 1944, the National Police was replaced by the Sûreté Nationale, but the organization retained by and large. On 9 July 1964, the Prefecture of Police of Paris was also placed under the Sûreté Nationale, and on 10 July 1966, the final reorganization in the National Police in its present form.

Construction

The General Directorate of the Police Nationale ( DGPN, Direction générale de la police nationale ) are five central directorates, three directorates, two services and the General Inspectorate and the police prefecture downstream:

  • Directorate for the Administration of the Police Nationale ( Direction de l' administration de la police nationale, DAPN )
  • Directorate for the training of the Police Nationale ( Direction de la formation de police nationale, DFPN )
  • Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (Direction centrale de la police judiciaire, DCPJ )
  • Central Directorate for Public Security (Direction centrale de la sécurité publique, DCSP ) Eingreifgruppen the Police Nationale ( Groupes d'Intervention de la Police Nationale, GIPN )
  • ( Under Directorate Against Terrorism ( Sous- Directorate Anti- Terroriste, SDAP )

Until 1 July 2008 there were Swiss Agency for the monitoring of the Territory ( Direction de la surveillance du territoire, DST), which functioned as a domestic intelligence and the Central Directorate for general information (Direction centrale of renseignements généraux, DCRG ), which acted as a central archive and was responsible for the monitoring of gambling and horse betting. Both directorates in the new Central Authority Directorate for Internal Monitoring (Direction centrale du renseignement intérieur, DCRI ) merged. The new authority is independent and not part of the Police Nationale.
