National Professional Soccer League (1984–2001)

The National Professional Soccer League was a professional indoor soccer league in the United States and Canada. It was founded in 1984 as the American Indoor Soccer Association, in 1990 the name was eventually changed to National Professional Soccer League. In the summer of 2001, the league play activities due to financial problems, which six remaining teams then founded the Major Indoor Soccer League, which started later, three additional teams from the World Indoor Soccer League ..

As of 1989, the NPSL had a special points system for gates. Depending on the distance from which a hit is scored, a team was a credited two or three points. Powerplay goals were a point value, as well as results obtained in the shutout.

Back in 1967, a league named National Professional Soccer League was formed, these closed, however after only one season with the United Soccer Association to North American Soccer League together.

Championships

The Master was played after the regular season in a play-off round. From 1984 to 1987, from 1988 to 1994 and from 1998 to 2001, the final series in the mode " Best-of -Five" was played, the champion of the season 19987/88 was determined in a so-called "Challenge Cup".
