National Salvation Party

The Millî Selamet Partisi (German National Salvation Party, MSP ) was an Islamist- oriented political party in Turkey.

The MSP was on 11 October 1972 by the members of the banned after the military coup of 1971 Millî Nizam Partisi ( National Party of Order ) (MNP ) was founded. The first chairman of the party was Suleyman Arif Emre, who was replaced on October 20, 1973 by Necmettin Erbakan. The party, which was at the House of Representatives election in 1973, 1.2 million votes (11%), managed to get into the National Assembly. On January 26, 1974, the MSP took part in the government than smaller partner in the government coalition with the Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi ( Republican People's Party ) under the leadership of Bülent Ecevit. Erbakan was Deputy Prime Minister. The occupation of Cyprus by Turkish troops was exercised by this coalition. But the coalition did not hold for more than 7 months.

After the end of this coalition, the MSP took this time to the government coalitions in part with conservative nationalist -oriented parties. The so-called First Nationalist Front, which from the Adalet Partisi ( Justice Party, AP ), the Milliyetçi Hareket Partisi ( Nationalist Movement Party ) ( MHP), the Republican Trust Party ( CGP ) and the MSP was, was established on 31 March 1975. The party also took part in the following ruling coalition, the so-called Second Nationalist Front, which was formed after the election to the National Assembly in 1977.

The Millî Selamet Partisi was banned after the military coup of 1980, like all other political parties. The leading cadres of the party were acquitted by the military court.

As the successor party Refah Partisi applies founded in 1983.
