National Unification Council

The Unification (Chinese国家 统一 委员会, pinyin guojia Tǒngyī Wěiyuánhuì, Eng. National Unification Council, NUC ) was an October 7, 1990 by Lee Teng- hui, President of the Republic of China on Taiwan and Chairman of the Kuomintang, based body whose aim it was to reflect on the conditions of annexation of Taiwan with the People's Republic of China. It was disbanded in 2006 by President Chen Shui -bian (Democratic Progressive Party ).

Objectives

The Council's objective had been to promote the reunification of Taiwan with China. It was founded in 1990 as a concession to the Government of the People 's Republic of China, that Taiwan was interested in a unification with China. The establishment of the Unification Council helped to initiate talks between the two countries in the 1990s.

Construction

The Unification was organizationally located within the Office of the President. The Council consisted of 32 people, politics and economy.

Work

The Council developed the Guidelines for National Unification, which were adopted by the Executive Yuan, the Cabinet of Unification and on March 14, 1991 February 23, 1991.

The Council accepted on 1 August 1992 the concept of " one China ", where there are two interpretations.

On April 8, 1995 Lee Teng- hui had called ( " Lee's six" ) for an association in the NUC six conditions, which were a response to the eight conditions of Jiang Zemin of January 1995.

There were a total of 14 meetings, which took place since the government takeover of Chen Shui -bian on 20 May 2000 any more. Even the budget of NT $ 1,000 was only a symbolic amount in recent years.

Resolution

The President of Taiwan, Chen Shui -bian, the Council disbanded on 27 February 2006. In a statement, the State Council of the People's Republic of China threw on 28 February 2006, Chen Shui -bian, with its decision to accelerate the separatist activities and a confrontation between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits want to provoke. The United States criticized the resolution. On the criticism of Taiwanese President responded by explaining the symbolic " Peace, " Taiwan (see incident of 28 February ) that the NUC would take the Taiwanese people the right to decide their own future. Officially, there was talk of a suspension of the Council.
