National Unity Party (Burma)

The Party of National Unity ( burmese တိုင်းရင်းသားစည်းလုံးညီညွတ်ရေးပါတီ, engl. National Unity Party ) is a political party in Myanmar.

The party was founded by the military junta as the successor of the party of the socialist program of Myanmar so that they can participate in the parliamentary elections on 27 May 1990. The chairman of the party 's U Tun Yi, former commander of the Burmese army.

In the 1990s, reorganized by the former Head of State of Myanmar U Ne Win ( 1911-2002 ) and other members of the Party of National Unity has placed 999 candidates for seats in the national and regional MPs houses in the elections in 2010. In the house they now received 12 of the 325 seats in the House of Lords 5 of 168 in Parliament and the provinces and Union States 46 of 661 seats. The massively supported by the military junta Union Solidarity and Development Party, however, represents 80 % of the deputies, the democratic opposition about 10 percent.
